Nestled in northeastern India, Meghalaya is a land of towering hills, deep valleys, and cascading waterfalls, sharing its borders with Assam and Bangladesh. Its capital, Shillong, sits atop a scenic plateau, offering breathtaking vistas. Known as the “Abode of Clouds,” Meghalaya’s dramatic landscapes, shifting mists, and ever-flowing rivers create an ideal setting for photographers seeking to capture nature in its purest form.
From the depths of hidden forest trails to rugged cliffs overlooking vast terrains, Meghalaya presents a rich variety of compositions for landscape and waterscape photography. The rhythmic flow of its rivers and plunging falls allows for stunning long-exposure shots, while the golden glow of autumn light enhances every frame. As night falls, the clear skies reveal a celestial masterpiece, providing the perfect opportunity for Astro-Landscape photography, where rugged terrains and shimmering stars blend seamlessly.

ITINERARY
19th September – Guwahati to Jowai
Depart from Guwahati at 7 AM, reach Jowai by afternoon. Capture landscapes at Tyrshi and Demthring Falls, followed by nightscapes at Hangne Die Cave.
20th September – Jowai Waterfalls & Nightscapes
Explore Phe Phe, Krang Suri, and Umpliang Falls with moderate trekking. Sunset shoot followed by nightscape photography at a remote cave location.
21st September – Jowai to Nonglang
Travel to Nonglang (135 km, 4-5 hrs). Visit Mawkyrwat Monolith Heritage for golden and blue hour shots, with nightscapes among Menhirs if skies are clear.
22nd September – Nonglang to Mawlangkhar
Explore Mawlangkhar’s rolling hills and panoramic views. Capture landscapes and, if conditions allow, astro-landscapes.
23rd September – Mawlangkhar to Guwahati
Depart at 8 AM, covering 154 km in 5 hours with a lunch stop. Arrive in Guwahati by 5 PM.
Note: Locations may change if necessary, with alternatives arranged at no extra cost.

Originally from Kolkata, Mrinmay moved to Siliguri in 2011 and spent over a decade in academics as a Geography faculty member. In 2018, he founded Exposure – The School of Photography, specializing in Astro Landscape and Street Photography. His work has been featured in national and international exhibitions, and he has led multiple photography tours, shaping the next generation of photographers.


Soumya Banerjee
A Kolkata-born Computer Science Engineer and software consultant, Soumya’s love for landscapes began in the Eastern Himalayas. Since 2018, he has combined his technical expertise with astrophotography, earning international recognition on platforms like AAPOD2, Astronomy.com, and EPOD. His award-winning work has been showcased in exhibitions across India.

- Basic fitness level—some locations require moderate trekking.
- Meghalaya’s Khasi and Jaintia Hills have an average elevation of 900–1,500 meters (2,950 – 4,920 feet), so be prepared for varying terrains.

Weather
Meghalaya, known as one of the wettest places on Earth, begins transitioning from the monsoon to autumn in September. The rains start to subside, leaving behind lush green landscapes, full-flowing waterfalls, and dramatic cloud formations—perfect for photography. Temperatures remain pleasant, ranging between 15°C to 28°C, with misty mornings and occasional showers adding to the ethereal beauty of the region.

How to reach Guwahati ?
Our photo tour starts and ends in Siliguri, ensuring a smooth travel experience for all participants.
By Air: Arrive at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) in Guwahati, which is well-connected to major cities across India. From the airport, you need to reach Guwahati Railway Station, our designated pickup point for the tour locations in Meghalaya.
By Train: Traveling by train is a great option. Guwahati Railway Station (GHY) is well-connected to major Indian cities and serves as the most convenient stop. Our team will pick you up from here at the designated time for the tour locations in Meghalaya.
By Bus: Guwahati is well-connected by NH27 & NH6, making it accessible by road. From nearby cities: Shillong (3 hrs), Tezpur (5 hrs), Siliguri (~11 hrs), and Kolkata (~22 hrs). From other parts of India: Delhi (~38 hrs), Mumbai (~48 hrs), and Bengaluru (~50 hrs). Regular ASTC and private buses operate, or you can drive via scenic highways.
Terms and Conditions
- Accommodation: Twin-sharing stay in comfortable hotels/homestays.
- Transportation: Round-trip travel from Guwahati to Guwahati, including transfers between shooting locations and accommodations.
- Meals: 4 breakfasts, 4 lunches, and 4 dinners during the tour.
- Drinking Water: Packaged drinking water provided throughout the trip.
- Photography Guidance: Expert mentorship covering shooting techniques and creative approaches.
- Post-Processing Sessions: Hands-on guidance to enhance your images.
- Permits & Entry Fees: All location permits and entry fees required for the tour.
- Camera & Drone Fees: Camera gear and drone entry charges included.
- Local Support: Assistance from an expert local guide to navigate remote locations.
What is not included in the Tour Fees?
- Flights & Train Tickets: International and domestic airfare or train travel to and from Guwahati.
- Additional Meals & Beverages: Any extra food or drinks beyond the provided meals.
- Travel Insurance & Personal Expenses: Insurance, medical expenses, personal shopping, and other individual expenditures.
- Camera Gear & Accessories: Participants must bring their own photography equipment, including tripods, filters, batteries, and other essentials.
- Transportation to Meeting Point: Pick-up & drop-off from Guwahati railway station, bus stand, or airport is not included but can be arranged at an additional cost.
- Extra Expenses during the Tour: Any unforeseen or additional expenses incurred will be shared equally among participants.
Important points to be noted
- The photo tour starts and ends in Guwahati.
- The photo tour is designed to provide personalized attention, so the group is limited to 08 photographers only.
- This is a dedicated photography tour, not a leisure tour. Non-photographer companions may join but must pay the full fee and adhere to the itinerary.
- While we aim to follow the planned schedule, unforeseen circumstances may cause changes.
- Please note that nightscape photography is entirely dependent on local weather conditions, although we hope for clear skies. The mentor will guide you throughout the photo tour.
- The maximum number of participants is listed under ‘Group Size’ for the photo tour; however, we reserve the right to add up to two additional participants beyond the stated limit.
Deadlines
Registration is open from 1st April 2025 till the seat reservations end.
Conditions
Only 8 dedicated photographers will be selected for this photo tour. A reasonable level of physical fitness is required, as some locations require walking or short hikes.

Booking
To secure your spot, you must pay 50% of the photo tour fee in advance, either in USD or INR (as per the conversion rate on the payment date). The remaining balance must be paid at least 30 days before the photo tour.
After making the payment, please send us a copy of the bank receipt or a screenshot of the transaction details. Once we confirm your payment, we will send you an email along with the photo tour’s Rules and Regulations, officially confirming your participation.
Please note that transaction and gateway charges will be borne by the participant.
Cancellation and Refunds
If you need to cancel or modify your confirmed booking, Exposure’s Cancellation and Refund Policy for Photography Tours will apply, and you must agree to be bound by its terms. In the unlikely event that Exposure cancels a tour due to insufficient participants, a full refund, including the deposit amount, will6 be issued.
Once the tour begins, no refunds will be provided for any unused services, including accommodations, meals, flights, tour days, events, or services. The cancellation penalties outlined below reflect costs incurred by Exposure on your behalf, including non-refundable payments made to agents, hotels, airlines, and other service providers.
Refunds, if applicable, will be processed within 14 working days from the date of written cancellation confirmation and will be issued using the same payment method.
To reserve your spot, a 50% deposit is required at the time of booking. Payments can be made via UPI, QR code, or NEFT (bank transfer details available on equest). If the full payment is not received at least 30 days before the photo tour, your reservation may be canceled, and the booking amount will not be refunded.
All cancellation requests from participants must be submitted in writing and will take effect from the date they are received (via standard mail or email).
Cancellation deductions based on FULL PHOTOTOUR FEES:
- No cancellation fee if the request is made 61 days or more before the tour start date.
- 80% of the total photo tour fee will be deducted if canceled between 61 and 46 days before the tour.
- 100% of the total photo tour fee will be deducted if canceled 45 days or less before the tour.
The trip will be canceled if the minimum group size (i.e., four participants) is not met at least 20 days before the photo tour start date. In such a case, a 100% refund will be issued, after deducting any applicable bank transaction charges.
