I was a little apprehensive about the trip. Who on earth goes trekking in Mongolia in the middle of winter! Those hunting for great photos, of course. However, Apratim ensured we were fully prepared, provided lots of advice about clothing and gear, and was always available for a chat. He had the most amazing team of cooks, interpreters, drivers, and support staff; we carried generators and had satellite internet coverage. We lacked for nothing. And the trip was fabulous. What a once-in-a-lifetime experience.  The sort of trip that lets you know you are truly living as richly and fully as possible, learning about the world we share, and wanting more.   And of course, I got some great images. We had an incredible experience on the Omo Valley Photo Tour with Apratim. From the moment he met us at the airport, everything was thoughtfully planned and professionally executed. We were given rare, immersive access to the tribal communities of the Omo Valley—including witnessing a Bull Jumping ceremony and spending time with the flower-adorned Siri and the powerful, tattooed Mursi—experiences that are nearly impossible to access on your own.

It was my pleasure to join the Exposure’s photography tour of the ‘Migration of the Eagle Hunters’ in Autumn, 2023. The tour started in Ulaanbaatar and our hotel’s location was perfect. Close to all the main sites, restaurants and nightlife. The hotel was clean and friendly with an excellent breakfast. We flew to Ulgii and started our drive to join the eagle hunters and their migration. The scenery was delightful and our Mongolian crew were superb. We had 3 vehicles to carry us, our tents, and our supplies. From our first lunch to our last breakfast we had the best cook one could find. Our crew put up tents for us or we slept in Gers. Even on cold nights I was warm and happy. Each day we started with breakfast, taking pictures as the eagle hunters milked their animals or prepared to leave. I felt part of the migration, talking with the family, helping out, and of course, taking pictures. The day was spent following the migration of the herd in the vehicles, jumping out for a 2 to 3 kilometer hike taking pictures of the trip. Loved every minute of it. Nights were at camp, being spoiled by our wonderful Mongolian crew and enjoying the breathtaking scenery. Every day a photo shot was arranged of the eagle hunters or family. Lots of opportunities to get wonderful shots. Upon arriving back in Ulgii we stayed at an enjoyable hotel once again close to all the best attractions of the city. Every night in Uglii we had a photo shoot of different eagle hunters and an enjoyable dinner afterwards. I would highly recommend Mr Apratim Saha’s tours. The expedition I recently joined was the Autumn Migration of the Eagle Hunters 2023, which was one of the best adventures I have experienced. Apratim is a master in his field and a truly inspiring mentor. He organised the Mongolia Photo Tour to the highest of standards, and I felt very well looked after. Participants were from various parts of the world, and I met some very passionate, talented, and lovely photographers whom I was inspired by. Let me start with thanking Apratim Da for taking me to Mongolia.. Mongolia is nothing less than a wonderland.. In my small journey in Photography I guess this is the bigggest, hardest and most challenging trip of my life.. In fact this is the most successful trip also.. I am sure the experience of staying in Ger with nomads during that cold will remain with me forever.. So does the experience of walking into snow blizzard during the migration.. God, whatta day it was.. I guess it's very hard to arrange the logistics during that kind of winter.. And Apratim Da did his best.. Wish last time We could go to reindeer forest also, but I guess it has to wait for another time.. And man, I wish that opportunity comes as early as possible.. In Summary, all I want to say, go visit Mongolia in winter.. its a wonderland... Winter Expedition Mongolia
