About Konkan Coast
Konkan Unveiled: Where Rugged Shores Meet Celestial Skies
Stretching along India’s western coastline, Konkan is a remarkable region shaped by the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats. Spanning parts of Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka, it is known for its rich cultural heritage, historic forts, traditional fishing communities, lush landscapes, and dramatic natural beauty.
The meeting of mountains and sea creates an ever-changing terrain of laterite cliffs, rocky outcrops, hidden beaches, estuaries, and green valleys, offering endless possibilities for exploration and visual storytelling.
For photographers, Konkan presents a diverse canvas of coastal wilderness, fishing villages, historic structures, and vast ocean horizons. Its quieter and darker locations also create excellent opportunities for astro landscape photography, with the Milky Way appearing above the Arabian Sea.
More than a destination, the Konkan Coast is an expedition into the unknown, where every journey reveals a new perspective and every clear night brings the landscape closer to the cosmos.

Climate & Weather
The Konkan Coast experiences a warm tropical coastal climate in April, with increasing daytime temperatures, strong sunlight and generally dry conditions. Along the southern Konkan coast, the proximity of the Arabian Sea creates a distinct coastal environment with moderate humidity, sea breezes and changing wind conditions.
During 5 – 10 April, daytime temperatures can generally range between 28°C and 34°C, with the strongest heat usually occurring during the afternoon. Conditions may feel warmer during extended outdoor photography sessions on exposed beaches, rocky shores and coastal viewpoints. Historical climate data for Ratnagiri shows April averages of around 32.6°C for daytime highs and 24.6°C for nighttime lows.
After sunset, temperatures generally become more comfortable, although the coastal atmosphere can remain warm and humid. Sea breezes and stronger winds may be experienced
at exposed locations, particularly along cliffs, beaches and elevated viewpoints.
Early April generally offers favourable opportunities for clear or partly clear skies along the Konkan Coast. However, coastal humidity, haze and occasional cloud cover may affect night sky visibility. Clear skies cannot be guaranteed every night, and astro landscape photography remains dependent on prevailing atmospheric conditions.
Participants should be prepared for:
- Strong sunlight and warm coastal conditions during the day
- Moderate humidity and sea breezes
- Strong winds at exposed coastal locations
- Sandy, rocky and uneven terrain at selected locations
- Warm evenings with occasional stronger coastal winds
- Long outdoor photography sessions during sunrise, sunset and night
- Light, breathable clothing, sun protection, sunglasses, a hat and adequate hydration are recommended for daytime comfort. A light windcheater is also recommended for exposed coastal locations and late-night photography sessions.
WEATHER DISCLAIMER: Coastal weather and atmospheric conditions can influence photography, even during the generally dry month of April. Strong winds, sea haze, and humidity or changing visibility may affect coastal landscapes and night sky photography.
Despite careful planning based on weather forecasts, tidal conditions and historical climate patterns, specific photographic conditions and results cannot be guaranteed. The itinerary and shooting locations may be adjusted whenever necessary to make the most of the prevailing conditions. The expedition is designed to maximize opportunities for photographing the landscapes and night skies of the Konkan Coast, while recognizing that natural conditions remain beyond our control.
